Every project that we collaborate on, presents us with opportunities demanding unique solutions. This interactive water feature on the new site of Columbia University allowed us to work within our ‘zone of genius’ and be creative and innovative with design.
Rob Mikula, Director of Creative Design at Crystal Fountains and presenter in this video says that “Creativity is problem-solving”. He explains the challenges of the cross-slope, drainage and infrastructure in this feature.
Still in the works today, the 225 sq ft interactive water feature project was brought to us by James Corner Field Operations in 2018. Working with Columbia University, Fountain Technologies, and Kelco Construction, and James Corner Field Operations has led to custom design and manufacturing of nozzles, drains which challenged us to find ways to create an impactful water feature while working with budget constraints.
Rob, Hanna and Roger show you behind the scenes as construction continues on-site and they share all that they are faced with.
